FAQs

What’s the Difference Between the THEFRENCHBULLDOG Barrel XL and the THEFRENCHBULLDOG Barrel Mini?

While both the Barrel XL and the Barrel Mini share the same barrel shape and inflatable design, they differ in size, capacity, and wall thickness.

The THEFRENCHBULLDOG Barrel Mini features a slimline 5cm thick wall, perfect for individual use, offering a compact and efficient cold therapy solution. In contrast, the THEFRENCHBULLDOG Barrel XL boasts a more robust 10cm thick wall, providing enhanced insulation and durability while comfortably fitting up to three people. Both models are crafted with thick rubber and feature air gap insulation to ensure an elite-level ice bathing experience, no matter the size you choose.

Our Top Three Frequently Asked Questions

How portable is it when packed?

The Pod conveniently packs down into a small bag, making it incredibly easy to handle. The barrel and Bath also have a carry bag but slightly bigger and heavier of course.

How does it maintain cold temperatures?

Our Repair Pod is equipped with 3x thermal insulated TPE layers, a Thermo Lid, and Rain Cover to prolong its cooling capabilities. The Repair Baths and Repair Barrels have insulated bodied and lids shielding from all weather conditions for optimal results. Be good to note that you should place your Ice Bath outdoors under shade to maximize passive overnight cooling. Add ice or ice blocks as needed and of course our ChillMaster Pro for day to day temperature regulating.

I am tall; will I fit in the ice bath?

Our Repair Pods accommodate individuals up to 2.1m tall (6′ 7″). Additionally, our Repair Bath and Repair Barrel designs cater for any body shape or size, with the Repair Barrel accommodating three people and the Repair bath two.

Taking Care of THEFRENCHBULLDOG Ice Baths

How can I maintain water cleanliness?

To keep the water clean, always ensure the lid is securely closed when not in use to prevent debris from contaminating it. We recommend changing the water weekly without any additives. Before refilling, wash the inside surfaces of your Pod, Barrel or Bath with warm soapy water to extend the longevity of the next fill.

Can I add Bromine to the water?

Yes, you can! Bromine tablets or powder can be added to prolong the water’s usability for up to 1 month. Bromine is skin-friendly and more effective in cold water than chlorine, requiring minimal usage for effectiveness compared to Chlorine.

Can I use Epsom Salts in my Ice Bath?

Absolutely! Adding Epsom Salt to your ice bath is safe and offers potential health benefits by supplementing magnesium levels. However, it’s essential to note that chloride salts, such as table salt or road salt, are not suitable for use in this context

Why Discoloration May Occur and How to Prevent It!

THEFRENCHBULLDOG Ice Baths are designed to maintain their original color when used and maintained properly. However, occasional discoloration may happen due to various external factors. Here’s what to keep in mind:

Use of a Floating Dispenser for Bromine: When using bromine tablets, always place them in a floating dispenser. Dropping bromine directly into the water can lead to localized discoloration on the interior material where it settles.

Water Quality and Composition: Local water mineral content can impact the water’s appearance and, over time, can lead to discoloration. To mitigate this, we recommend changing the water weekly, which helps maintain clarity.

External Contaminants: Certain body care products, clothing dyes, and even eco-friendly detergents can interact with the bromine in the bath, leading to discoloration. Ensure that any products used in the bath or on clothing are bromine-compatible and unlikely to leave residues.

Cleaning: Before refilling, use warm soapy water to wash the inside of your Pod, Barrel, or Bath, as this helps remove any build-up and keeps your ice bath looking its best.

Golden Rules and Guidelines for your Cold Water Therapy Success

Dos:

  • Start gradually: Begin with shorter exposures to cold water, such as cold showers or brief dips in ice baths, and gradually increase the duration and intensity over time.
  • Focus on breathwork: Practice controlled breathing techniques, such as deep diaphragmatic breathing or Wim Hof breathing, to help regulate your body’s response to the cold and promote relaxation.
  • Stay mindful: Maintain awareness of your body’s sensations and responses during cold exposure, and use mindfulness techniques to stay present and calm.
  • Combine with movement: Engage in gentle movements or exercises while in the cold water to promote circulation and enhance the benefits of cold exposure.
  • Use as a recovery tool: Incorporate cold water therapy into your post-exercise recovery routine to reduce inflammation, muscle soreness, and fatigue.
  • Experiment with timing: Try cold exposure at different times of the day to see what works best for you, whether it’s in the morning to energize and focus or in the evening to promote relaxation and recovery.

Don’ts:

  • Push too hard: Avoid pushing yourself beyond your limits during cold exposure, and listen to your body’s signals if you feel uncomfortable or in distress.
  • Overexpose yourself: Be cautious of prolonged exposure to cold water, as it can increase the risk of hypothermia or other adverse effects.
  • Use alone: Whenever possible, have someone nearby or inform others of your cold water therapy sessions to ensure safety and assistance if needed.
  • Neglect warm-up and recovery: Prioritize proper warm-up before cold exposure and follow up with adequate recovery practices, such as gentle movement, hydration, and nutrition.
  • Ignore medical conditions: Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as cardiovascular issues or respiratory problems, should consult with a healthcare professional before engaging in cold water therapy to assess safety and suitability.

By following these dos and don’ts, individuals can safely and effectively incorporate cold water therapy into their wellness routines to optimize physical and mental performance. THEFRENCHBULLDOG’s approach emphasizes the importance of gradual progression, mindfulness, and individualized experimentation to maximize the benefits of cold exposure while minimizing potential risks.
